Sustainability & Biodiversity
We contribute to the ecosystem of the island with Certified Organic Plantations. We are improving the microclimate around Sigri.
As a result of our olive oil cultivations and care for nature, Faros Estate has become home for thousands of birds and animals, contributing to the biodiversity.

- Olive roots hold the soil and revive ground that was once bare.
- Using chemical fertilizers is against our philosophy. We collect all-natural local resources, from animal by-products, Posidonia seaweed and pruning, and turn them into compost. Natural resources are thus returned to the earth and enrich the soil. Seaweed fertilizer is not only organic, it also comes from a sustainable source and can be harvested without damaging the environment.
- Organic seaweed fertilizer supplies magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and nitrogen, all beneficial to olive trees and key to photosynthesis.
- What we take from the atmosphere, we return to the soil.

- Olive trees lower the environmental temperature, through their shadowing and biological processes

- Olive trees are a physical barrier to erosion
- We positively affect the aquifer horizon in an area that was waterlogged
- Increasing humidity in an anhydrous terrain
Regenerative agriculture in practice

On top of our 50.000 olive trees,
we have carefully chosen more tree varieties to live alongside the olives: palm trees, pines, cypresses, tamarisk trees, oaks, eucalyptus, pomegranate & fig trees, jojobas, lotuses, nuts, pistachio trees and carobs grow side by side, bringing life back to what was once dry land.
